James Tissot (1836-1902) was part of Paris painting scene for the majority of his life. He painted alongside artists like Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, and Edouard Manet. He frequently painted the fashionable women of Paris and London. However, in 1885, after several personal tragedies, experienced a renewal of his faith. He spent the rest of his life painting scenes from the Bible. An illustrated edition of the Bible was published using his drawings.
