Together at Last: Valentine's Day at Home

Together at Last: Valentine's Day at Home

First, let's get in the mood and talk about the lore of love and valentines through the ages. We are a people fascinated and ruled by love. We sing about it, write about it, dream about it, feel it, chase it, lose it, and celebrate it on the 14th day of February. Some sources say the holiday came from the ancient Roman festivals and Cupid's playful tricks. Others say it started with Saint Valentine, a priest, secretly marrying couples against the emperor's decree.

Hello Winter, My Old Friend

Hello Winter, My Old Friend

With snowy days ahead, we are dreaming of all the ways we can enjoy this season, instead of impatiently waiting for the next. We find ourselves staring through the frosted window panes with a copper kettle heating on the stove and scones. We want to curl up in wool blankets cradling cups of tea and good books. The simple acts of lighting a candle or building a crackling fire bring a measure of peace as the storm swirls outside. Hello winter, my old friend, come and stay for a while.

Twelfth Night: A Night of Kings and Revelry

Twelfth Night: A Night of Kings and Revelry

Each year, December rushes by as we hustle and bustle preparing for Christmas Day. Especially in America, we often find ourselves rushing back to work, or moving on to the next season a little too quickly. Here at Heirloom Art Co. we love the magic and traditions of the days after Christmas. The original twelve days of Christmas begin on Christmas Day and last until the 6th of January. The evening of January 5th, known as Epiphany Eve or more colloquially as "Twelfth Night" i s the final evening of Christmastide celebrations, and often one of mischief and revelry.
