French Vintage Tea Towel

$ 48.00

In past eras in France, young women would prepare a trousseau before marrying—an ensemble of linen pieces she would use all her life: bed sheets, bath towels, and tea towels.

In the villages, the women would gather at the washhouse to wash their linens. They would wash them, then hang them to dry in the sun. Each woman would embroider her linens with her initial so they wouldn’t be mixed up with the other linens hanging to dry.

Our collection of antique tea towels have been passed down through generations of French homes. Each has an iconic French red stripe pattern. Some have embroidered initials as well.

Made of linen, an incredibly absorbent and durable textile, these towels are truly an heirloom.
