Obweebetuck was painted in 1908 by the painter Julian Alden Weir. One of the leading American Impressionists and a founding member of the Cos Cob Art Colony, Weir had a gift for turning everyday countryside scenes into something quietly poetic.
In this painting, soft brushstrokes blur the lines between field, tree, and sky. It feels like late afternoon when the light stretches long, and everything goes quiet. You can almost hear the wind in the grass and feel that calm, weightless pause before the day gives way to evening.
