The Claddagh is a localized variation of a European "fede", or loyalty, ring particular to Ireland. This ring features two hands clasped around a heart with a crown on top of the heart. Each aspect of the ring carries deep significance: the hands of friendship, the heart filled with love, and the crown of loyalty.

This ring also has significance based on the way it is worn, the ring can be a symbol of the wearer's relationship status. If the ring is worn on the right hand with the point of the heart facing out, it indicates that the wearer is available and looking for love. With the ring on the right, the point turned in means that the heart is promised to someone. When the ring is worn on the left with the point turned out, it is a sign of engagement. And with the ring on the left hand, the point facing in is a symbol of a committed marriage.
