French Vintage Tea Towel
In past eras in France, young women would prepare a trousseau before marrying, a collection of linen pieces meant to accompany her through daily life, from bed sheets and bath towels to tea towels.
In the villages, the women would gather at the washhouse to wash their linens. They would wash them, then hang them to dry in the sun. Each woman would embroider her linens with her initial so they wouldn’t be mixed up with the other linens hanging to dry.
Our collection of antique tea towels have been passed down through generations of French homes. Each has an iconic French red stripe pattern. Many have an embroidered initial from a young bride who first used these in her home.
Made of linen, an incredibly absorbent and durable textile, these towels are truly an heirloom.
