My father is always thinking of what he can do for others, and he rarely ever asks for anything himself. With Father’s Day coming up, it can be difficult to know what to get him to show my appreciation.

Look for ways to improve the overall quality of his life, even if it’s a seemingly small part of his life. Getting him something that is functional and useful, can turn a small moment in his life into a meaningful experience each day.

Being a Boy Scout afforded me many opportunities for adventure, experiential learning, and service I otherwise wouldn’t have had. One service opportunity my troop was routinely in charge of was to set up an American flag in the front yard of every neighbor who wanted one on all the patriotic holidays. 

Read on to hear what I learned from this experience, the meaning behind our flag, and the holidays that celebrate it.

As we create memories together, we are creating something that money cannot buy. These shared experiences are the ones that I will treasure for a lifetime and that will continue to bring us closer together as the years go by.

Whether it's our first time watching a particular film or a beloved classic that we've seen too many times, watching it allows us to connect over and over again.

While it's good for any night, we are going to talk a bit about making it an experience the famed Irish holiday, that is celebrated with more zeal in America than in Ireland itself, St. Patrick's Day. 

First, let's get in the mood and talk about the lore of love and valentines through the ages.

We are a people fascinated and ruled by love. We sing about it, write about it, dream about it, feel it, chase it, lose it, and celebrate it on the 14th day of February.
