The Night Before Christmas - illustrated by Roger Duvoisin
Before it became a Christmas Eve favorite, The Night Before Christmas appeared anonymously in a New York newspaper in 1823. Originally known as A Visit from St. Nicholas and later credited to Clement C. Moore, the poem helped shape the Santa we recognize today, with his reindeer-drawn sleigh and deliveries down the chimney.
We love this edition for Roger Duvoisin’s illustrations. First published in 1954, it reminds us of the Christmas books we loved as children and still look forward to bringing out each year. The tall, narrow shape fits neatly into a stocking, and we love the thought of it being opened on Christmas morning and read together that night.
