Advent Christmas Village Square 1946

In 1946, Richard Sellmer made this Advent calendar by hand in his living room, using Elisabeth Lörcher’s illustration of a snowy village, with little scenes of life inside the houses hidden behind their windows. Years later, a photograph of President Eisenhower’s grandchildren with the calendar helped make German Advent calendars better known in America.

This paper reproduction keeps the 1946 design. Open one of its 24 windows each day from December 1 through Christmas Eve and watch the village come to life.
