Laguiole Olivewood Carving Set
The well-beloved laguiole knife. Laguiole refers to the style of knife, rather than to a brand or maker. They originated in Andalusia, as a sort of pocket knife for shepherds.
As the shepherds migrated their herds through the Pyrenees mountains each summer and winter, they carried these knives. At times when they were in the wilderness, with no cathedral to pray in, shepherds would thrust the blade into the earth as a symbolic cross to use in personal devotion and prayers.
Soon France made the knife their own and began producing it in the tiny village of Laguiole. Laguiole knives feature a bee on the crest of their blade. Some say it is Napoleon's bee and a symbol of courage.
Available in a serving set, carving set, or set of knives, laguiole makes a lively addition to any dining experience, as well as a wonderful gift.
