The Marching Olives of Mallorca by Guillem Vadell Montaner
This is the type of painting that stops you in your tracks. You can stare at it for hours as the olive trees come to life, ancient monarchs marching through the countryside. If you have spent much time in Spain or Italy, the olive trees have their own sort of wisdom. We fell in love with this playful adaptation of the olives trees on parade. We purchased this piece in South Carolina, but it's clear that it somehow made its way across the Atlantic.
Montaner was born in Palma, Spain. The son and disciple of Spanish sculptor Miguel Vadell Pastor. He is known for his landscapes and still-life paintings. This wonderful foray into 20th-century surrealism has been used in a number of Hollywood movie productions.
