Over the River and Through the Wood

Over the River and Through the Wood is one of those songs we remember singing at school. Lydia Maria Child’s poem takes us along on a snowy sleigh ride to Grandmother and Grandfather’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. We especially like Christopher Manson’s woodcut illustrations, with children sledding and skating along the way and the family coming together for the feast. It reminds us of being children on the way to a family gathering, wondering how much longer until we get there.
