An idea was born one morning when I was up before the sun and saw the way the light touched the Wellsville mountains. In those first moments of the day I knew I wanted to try and paint it. Painting them from life had to be timed just right. I spent many mornings just observing the way the light moved. Then spent more doing quick sketches to record accurate color and value as the sun rose. Each morning was a little different. Some mornings perfectly clear, others with some drama in the sky. With my knowledge of studying these mountains plein air, I was equipped with the information to compose in my studio.
