This large piece is based off of a plein air study I did on location in Santa Cruz California in March 2020. This date and day are significant because of what would follow. What started with cloudy rain on a cold windy day along the coast, ended with the sun breaking through, revealing a shining bright sea and blue waters. The day warmed up and turned out to be amazing.
I continued to paint for the next few days with the storytellers in California. Upon returning home, I had been back in Utah for one day before the Nation was thrown into quarantine due to the worsening Covid 19 Pandemic. I have since drawn strength from the study I did that day, knowing that the storm will pass and the sun will shine through, allowing us to see the beauty of a breaking storm.
