John Hafen contributed greatly to building the arts in Utah. He founded the Utah Art Association, taught at the Brigham Young Academy, and settled in Springville where his donations of landscape paintings began what is now the Springville Art Museum. Of Hafen, artist B. F. Larson wrote that he “loved and understood nature. To him it was created by a personal God. He approached nature with a reverent attitude. … Hafen lived close to God. He had a prophetic, sensitive spirit.”
