Aspen Grove, the Reverse Side of Timpanogos
Oil on canvas, 28" x 37" framed
While studying painting at the University of Deseret in the 1870s, Culmer rubbed shoulders with artists Alfred Lambourne, Reuben Kirkham, and Thomas Moran. Culmer and Lambourne often traveled to the Masatch Mountains together on painting excursions. These artists’ fraternity was a productive one: the same warm palette, expansive panoramic views, and appreciation of impressive geologies echo across their work.
