LeConte Stewart is known for his impressionistic, unidealized depictions of rural Utah. He studied art extensively in his early years, under Edwin Evans and A.B. Wright, then spent most of his professional career as a teacher in elementary and secondary school across Salt Lake. Much of his painting was done on weekends, quickly, and on-site. He said, “Each Saturday I painted one large 24-by-30-inch picture in the morning and another in the afternoon. Between I painted four smaller studies. Six was an average Saturday for me.”
