Pysanky Egg Dying Tool Set

$ 34.00

Pysanky egg-dying is an age-old tradition from Eastern Europe. As the legend goes, the more colors on an egg, the more magic the egg contains. The storytellers say that somewhere in the world there is a giant serpent who remains chained up until the year people stop dying pysanky eggs. These real eggs have been hollowed out and painted using a variety of techniques: wax resist, hand-painting, embossing, and perforation. Each color is symbolic and usually made with natural dyes. Choose one or choose a whole dozen.

Practice the art of pysanky at home with our simple pysanky egg-dying tools.

Directions: Use 1 1/4 cup of boiling water (distilled water is best) and 1 Tbs. white vinegar with the dye packet. Our dyes are non-toxic. They use acid setting powder or vinegars to hold their color properly, however, so they are not recommended as food safe. Best to just use for decorating eggs!
