The grandson of Brigham Young, Mahonri Young is known for several notable works in Utah, the This is the Place Monument and the Seagull Monument in Salt Lake City among them. Like many of his contemporaries, Young studied at the Art Students League in New York and the Academie Julian in Paris. Young received most of his acclaim as a sculptor, although his paintings and sketches also attest to his mastery of form and realism.
